PART III - Chapter I to VI

Welcome back to the third part of this journey!
Without further ado, let's continue with my impressions from Part III.

In continuation of Raskolnikov's inner chaos, now the narrative dives even deeper into his psychological turmoil and moral dilemmas. There is an intense sense of tension and unease in every encounter Rodion is having, jumping from a state of lucidity to delilrium. Raskolnikov's guilt and paranoia increased to the point of plaguing him, leading to a state of anxiety and suspicion. The uncomfortable struggle intensifies as he copes with the consequences of his crime and the deep weight of his conscience.

In addition, Razumikhin, Raskolnikov's loyal friend, becomes increasingly suspicious of Raskolnikov's behaviour and begins to confront him about his strange actions, which brings to the surface such issues as trust and tension in their relationship that arise from Raskolnikov's turmoil. As Raskolnikov’s mental state is deteriorating, he started having hallucinations, nightmares, and experienced moments of extreme paranoia. He was convinced that he was being followed and would be caught at any moment. This increased the disconnection from the world around him.

On the other hand, Raskolnikov also started experiencing a range of emotions in response to his sister's engagement to Luzhin. Initially, he felt a sense of disbelief and resentment, because he sees the engagement as a betrayal, perceiving Luzhin as an unsuitable match for his sister, Dunya. This situation worsens his mental state and adds to the already existing turmoil in his mind a feeling of anger towards the engagement comes from his belief that Luzhin is a shallow and manipulative individual. Raskolnikov's protective instincts towards his sister further fuel his negative emotions.

In summary, Part III of Crime and Punishment takes readers on an introspective journey through the tumultuous inner world of Raskolnikov after commiting the crime. Now he is forced to explore his own facets of guilt, morality, manipulation, and perhaps, a possible chance of confession.

If you want to know more about it, stay tunned for the next coming part! Au revoir! ;)
